Russell - Braswell Cemetery
Records presented here for the Russell - Braswell Cemetery were first published in the Carroll County Historical Quarterly, Summer 1981. There are no marked stones in this cemetery, only unmarked fieldstones. The information came from notes found in the Graham papers from the estate of Annie (Graham) Cates in 1980 by Bob Graham, Jr., her nephew. The cemetery is located just north of Green Forest on Yocum Creek on what was known as the Graham farm. Annie Graham Cates owned the land and cared for the cemetery until her death ca. 1962.
To get to the cemetery, take highway 103 North from Green Forest. Turn left on the gravel road just before the Church of Christ Church at the edge of the city limits. The relic of the old Annie Cates homesite is about three quarters of a mile past the Villines Feed Mill on this road. The cemetery is close by. This is private property, so one would need to get permission to visit the cemetery.   Send all corrections to
Keeper of the Keys.
